Play Hunt The Wumpus: Global Edition, a free game developed over a 48hr period at #ggj13 #sgj13 for the theme: 'heartbeat'.
The very first Hunt The Wumpus was a text-based single player game by Gregory Yob and this version has some noticable differences from the original.
HTW:GE is purely a multiplayer game. The Play now!/webstart version will connect to the central server by default, but players can choose to run their own servers if they wish, using the server source from the #ggj website.
 
So, grab your headphones or make sure your speakers are on, find a comfy spot to sit, and get hunting!

TUTORIAL

  • Aim of the game: figure out where the Wumpus creature is.
  • Do this by moving around a 2D grid (NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, WEST) listening for its heartbeat and watching for visual clues.
  • Shoot into the room you think the Wumpus is lurking in (SHOOT <direction>)
  • Do not enter the same room as the Wumpus (you will get eaten)
  • Bonus points: hunt other players too (listen for footsteps) before they get the big points for shooting the Wumpus!

  1. Q: Why does the screen in the game look like the static from an old TV?
    A: Either you're offline or the server you're trying to connect to is offline.
  2. Q: What if I don't want to run a java client?
    A: Try the basic text version using telnet/PuTTY/terminal: e.g.
    telnet wumpus.uk.to 5000
